Hi everyone! I’m a high school student working on a project called Light from Afar, an astronomy website.
I’m currently developing the Explore and Connect pages and would love to find people interested in astronomy and programming to exchange ideas and potentially work together on these features.
If you’re interested, feel free to reach out! I’d love to hear your thoughts and see what we could build together.
Hi! I’d be super happy to collab. Im from the UK. What’s the project?
Thanks for reaching out!
So, Light from Afar is an astronomy platform I’m building for astrophotographers and anyone interested in space. The idea is to bring different astronomy tools and social experiences together in one place.
Users can explore the night sky through an interactive sky map, search for celestial objects, browse astronomical surveys and databases, plan observing sessions based on object visibility and Moon conditions, calculate their telescope and camera field of view, and keep logs of their observations.
I’m also working on two social features. Explore is basically a social feed where people can share their astrophotography, discoveries, thoughts, and discuss anything related to space. Connect is a bit more ambitious. The idea is to let people connect their telescopes, share live views, and observe together through live calls, eventually even allowing remote telescope control.
