Dear Astropy Community,

The next Astropy Coordination Committee (CoCo) election will be help in mid-September 2023. Two seats are available as both Moritz Günther’s and Erik Tollerud’s two year terms are coming to an end. The new members will serve 3-year terms. More details about the process are described in APE0.

Nominations are open now and will close on August 30th (anywhere on Earth). Anyone is welcome to nominate. To nominate someone (or yourself) to be a CoCo Member, please fill out the Nomination form: https://forms.gle/QknCNuRJr8NA8yHaA

Nominees will be asked via email whether they wish to accept their nomination. If they accept, the nominee will be asked to provide a short statement on the Open Astronomy Discourse.

For the Coordination Committee,
Moritz

The election is closed and our returns officer (Lindsay Stecher at NumFOCUS) has released the final results:
Clara Brasseur 26
Erik Tollerud 22
27 cast votes (out of 43)

Voting members can visit heliosvoting with their user ID and password to verify the election results.

Both Clara and Erik have cleared the threshold of “50% of the votes” and are thus elected as new Coco members with terms running till fall of 2026.
Congratulations to both of them and thank you for taking on this important role in organizing and coordinating Astropy!

It’s been an honor to serve in this role and I’m somewhat sad to be leaving the Coco; I thank all of you for the support that I’ve gotten for as long as I filled this role.

We will be doing a soft transition from me to Clara over the next 2-3 weeks or so, so you might still see a few more email from me as a Coco member, but of course my goal is to pass the gavel to Clara as soon as we can work through the transition.

For the coordination committee,
Moritz
