Aspiring GSoC 2026 Contributor interested in C++ & Astronomy

Dear Open Astronomy Community,

My name is Krish Goyal, and I am a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Mathematics and Computing at the National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar.

I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to Open Astronomy for Google Summer of Code 2026. I have always been deeply fascinated by the cosmos—from the mechanics of our solar system to the vastness of the universe—and I am eager to combine this passion with my software engineering skills.

Currently, I am focusing heavily on Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) using C++. I am looking for opportunities to apply my C++ knowledge to real-world astronomical tools and libraries.

Could you please point me toward any sub-projects within the Open Astronomy umbrella that rely on C++ or where performance optimization is a priority? I would love to start by exploring the codebase and tackling some “good first issues.”

I am very excited about the prospect of Open Astronomy participating in GSoC 2026, given the fascinating and impactful work this community does.

Thank you for your time and guidance.

Best regards,
