I am Adwait Amlekar, a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student with a strong interest in computational science, and complex problem solving.

My experience so far has been shaped by working with programming languages, molding them to key research areas in physics. I used this method recently to analyze light curves of TRAPPIST 1e, to explore markers of planetary habitability this helped me develop a healthy appreciation for how much scientific research depends on the efficiency of underlying software ecosystems. I have also worked on simulating two-body dynamics under a custom force law using numerical integration, and on a basic stellar evolution model linking key stellar properties over time. Additionally, I developed a signal processing pipeline using PyCBC and GWpy to isolate black hole merger signals from LIGO data, employing matched filtering and Q-transforms to distinguish cosmic transients from instrumental noise.

This is what draws me to the hardening Astropy’s core stability project within OpenAstronomy I am intrigued by the challenges of mixed language codes, where the low level layer domination introduces both performance benefits, and long term efficiency complexity. I approach projects with a focus on clarity, depth of research, and striving for a better result. I am eager to contribute to this work, and grow through the challenges it shall present.
